Three Okotoks area golfers made the podium at a classic event on the weekend.

Shane Sky from Foothills County won the Peewee boys competition to highlight a strong showing at the Maple Leaf Junior Tour Northern Alberta Xtreme Golf Classic held June 14-15 at the Stony Plain Golf Course.

“It is always fun to play tournaments. I always look to improve,” said Sky in a MJT release, while also emphasizing ‘staying in the moment and having fun’ as his mindset throughout the event.

The 10-year-old had a two-round score of 159 (81 and 78) to win the Peewee title by 21 strokes over his next closest competition.

The script flipped in the Bantam division which went to the wire.

Fort McMurray’s Landon Reid edged Okotoks’ Erik Petersen in a playoff hole after the golfers posted identical scores of 154. Petersen, 13, shot rounds of 79 and 75, respectively.

Heritage Pointe’s Solomon Tong finished second in the competitive Juvenile ranks.

Tong, 15, had rounds of 76 and 73 and was just two shots back of Calgary’s Ryan Johnson.

Sky is one of six golfers from the event to earn qualification to the MJT East Coast Junior Championship.

Next up on the MJT circuit in Alberta is the MJT Maui Jim Series held June 23-24 in Innisfail.
